Magic Kingdom Update: Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin Renovation Progress (2026)

A significant excavation has taken place right at the entrance of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom, drawing attention from park visitors. This beloved attraction is currently unavailable, but it is slated to welcome guests back this coming spring (https://wdwnt.com/2025/12/disney-announces-opening-timeframe-for-reimagined-big-thunder-mountain-and-buzz-lightyears-space-ranger-spin/).

During our trip to Magic Kingdom on February 5, we observed a notably large hole where the entrance used to be, alongside a newly constructed wooden framework. At this stage, the structure features only a few vertical components, leading us to speculate that this could be the beginnings of a revamped entrance.

It appears that this work might be preparatory for laying down a concrete base, which is often essential for supporting new attractions or enhancements. Within the hole, we noticed a couple of metal poles equipped with wiring positioned at the rear of the structure, suggesting further development is on the horizon. Additionally, the walls adjacent to the entry doors have been updated with fresh gray panels, while the previous archway and signage were dismantled in mid-January (https://wdwnt.com/2026/01/entrance-removed-buzz-lightyears-space-ranger-spin/). Soon after, crews commenced removing the pavement (https://wdwnt.com/2026/01/more-pavement-removed-buzz-lightyears-space-ranger-spin/).

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been out of operation since August 2025 due to an extensive refurbishment. This upgrade includes introducing new ride vehicles (https://wdwnt.com/2025/08/breaking-first-look-at-new-ride-vehicles-for-buzz-lightyear-space-ranger-spin/) that come equipped with handheld blasters (https://wdwnt.com/2025/03/photos-video-we-got-to-play-test-the-new-buzz-lightyear-blasters-heres-everything-we-learned/), interactive targets (https://wdwnt.com/2025/12/updated-interactive-targets-installed-buzz-lightyears-space-ranger-spin-visible-peoplemover/), and enhanced scenes (https://wdwnt.com/2026/01/walt-disney-imagineering-shares-new-battle-scene-and-more-coming-to-buzz-lightyears-space-ranger-spin/).
